What’s Wrong With Idealizations?
One of the biggest life transformations I have experienced was when I understood how many things I was idealizing and what the consequences on my life were.
So, first, what are idealizations?
We idealize ideas, values, and beliefs; people or other aspects of the world; circumstances or outcomes we desire for ourselves, our families, or society at large. We then attach excessive significance to the object or subject of our idealization, believing it to be purer or more worthy than it actually is.
Driven by these ideals and beliefs, we place immense importance on pursuing them, often disregarding other crucial parts of our lives. This leads to deep disappointment when reality fails to meet our expectations—often resulting in stress depression and burnout. These are the chronic condition many changemakers find themselves in.
